Hispanic Heritage Month: 5 Ways you Can Celebrate Year-Round

Today might be the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15-10/15), but what are some meaningful ways to continue honoring and supporting Hispanic and Latine communities year-round? Let's celebrate the rich history, cultural contributions, and resilience of over 62 million Americans with ancestry from Mexico, Central & South America, the Caribbean, and Spain beyond just this dedicated month. Here are just 5 suggestions from reframe52!

  1. Learn

Engage with content illuminating current social issues in Hispanic and Latine communities, such as the podcast Latino USA on NPR, Ted en Español, which discusses topics ranging from disability to art.

The audiobook vendor Libro.fm even has dedicated playlists and supports Latine and Hispanic-owned bookstores with your purchases. Look through Hispanic Heritage Month reading lists online.

  2. Engage with Art

Check to see if a museum or gallery near you is putting on any special exhibitions or events. Check out just a few Hispanic and Latine voices in the arts that our founders love:

    • Art: Marisol Escobar, Jesus Treviño, Lucia Hierro, Félix González-Torres, Elsa Muñoz

    • Film: Guillermo del Toro

    • Poetry: Ada Limón & Gloria Anzaldúa

  1. Local Support

Support local Hispanic & Latine restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, & cultural centers. You might even take a cooking, language or dance class!

Attend events in your city that not only celebrate this month, but also support local artists, musicians, and restaurants.

  1. Get Involved

Encourage elected representatives by phone or email to to support DACA (the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy & related legislation that create pathways to citizenship for our 11 million undocumented immigrants. FWD.us can help you get started.

Advocate for inclusion and representation of Hispanic and Latine voices and leadership in your community, workplace, and the government.

  1. Donate

Donate to Latine or Hispanic nonprofits and community organizations such as RAICES, The Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Hispanic Institute, The Latino Victory Fund, Voto Latino, Salvadoran American Leadership and Educational Fund (SALEF), Latino Public Broadcasting, Mi Familia Vota, GreenLatinos, and the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice.

Let’s continue to ensure that Hispanic and Latinx voices, leadership, and experiences are fully represented in our workplaces, communities, and government. The impact of these communities is woven into the fabric of our nation, and it’s up to all of us to celebrate, support, and advocate for them—today and every day.
